The Girl Behind The Blog: Get To Know Me

A Little About Me

1. What does your name mean?

Refiloe means “We have been given”. My second name is Palesa, which means “Flower”, so my parents were very glad to have been given a daughter after 2 boys. I was their little flower, hence “We have been given a beautiful flower” (I know, my folks are adorable!🥰).

2. How old are you?

I am 26 years old. Whew!

3. How Tall Are You?

Not tall at all. I am 1.53 metres tall. (cue the short jokes 🙃 ). I used to be self conscious about my height until I realised that I am VERY cute, so now I simply do not care.

4. Do You Have A Hidden Talent? If So, What?

Yes, I do. I can sing. I used to sing choral music back in high school and not to toot my own horn or anything but I was really good at it. Not a lot of people know that about me. (Don’t ask me to sing for you though, that’s weird.)

5. What’s Your Favourite Way To Spend Your Free Time?

I am an introvert, so I spend most of my time watching Netflix, reading, and playing games on my phone. Once in a while, I’ll go out with friends and socialise, but more often than not, I spend my free time alone or with my also very introverted boyfriend.

6. What Was Your Favourite Subject In School And Why?

I looooved Maths and Physical Science. Something about solving complex equations and coming up with hypotheses excited me. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

7. How many languages do you speak?

I am fluent in Sesotho (Yes, I am a proud Sotho girl!) and English. I can hold a conversation in Sepedi and Setswana, and I also understand a bit of Zulu, Xhosa and Swati.

8. When is your birthday?

January 3rd. I am a Capricorn. (HA! Like that wasn’t obvious already!)

9. Which city did you grow up in?

Born and raised in QwaQwa, a small town in the Free State, South Africa. I lived there until I left for University.

10. Which city do you live in now?

I live in Pretoria now. I moved to Pretoria to study at the University of Pretoria, then when I started working, I moved to Johannesburg because it was convenient and closer to work, and since I didn’t have a car at the time, it just made more sense, but Pretoria always had my heart, so I am back in Pitori mahlanyeng!

11. Do you consider yourself a good cook?

Abso-freaking-lutely! I am a good cook. I am not a professional, but I have fun in the kitchen and my meals are always a hit with my loved ones.

12. Do you have any piercings or tattoos?

I have both. I have 2 tattoos and I am planning a 3rd one; and 3 piercings, both ears and tongue, I want 2 additional piercings on each ear, for vibes.

13. Do you have siblings?

I do, I have 5 siblings in total. 2 older brothers, 1 little brother, 1 half sister and 1 step sister.

14. Do you prefer dogs or cats?

I am not a pet lover in general, but I guess if I had to choose, gun to my head, I’d go with dogs. Cats are cute but they are a**holes. (Cats lovers, don’t come for me.)

15. Do you prefer the beach or the mountains?

Both. I grew up around mountains and I did not appreciate them until I moved to the city, now every time I go back home, I am just in awe of how breathtakingly beautiful they are, and who doesn’t love the beach? Any excuse to wear a bikini honey, I am in!

Fun Fact: My hometown, QwaQwa is also known as “Thaba di mahlwa” which loosely translates to “Snowy mountains”. It is surrounded by stunning mountains, and in winter, they are usually covered in snow, it’s very very cold, but aw so beautiful! I love it there. (Can you tell?)

16. What did you want to be when you were younger?

I wanted to be a doctor at some point (Didn’t we all?), then I changed my mind and decided I wanted to be a professional singer (HA!), then I considered being a teacher like my parents because my mom wasn’t subtle in trying to persuade me, but that “dream” quickly died when I realised that I don’t have the patience required to teach, and I discovered computers, and boy oh boy, I was hooked.

17. What is one food that you refuse to eat?

I have a list:

a. Mopanie worms – I don’t have to explain this one, c’mon.

b. Olives – A salty bitter mess. (I SAID WHAT I SAID!)

c. Pickles/Gherkins (Whatever you wanna call them) – I see them, I think rotten cucumber, need I say more?

d. Sushi – Refer to this video on my feelings on sushi.

18. What phone do you have (Apple or Android)?

Android, and that’s that on that. This is one debate I am not interested in getting into.

19. What’s your favourite season?

Winter! I love winter, I love the fashion, the meals, the fact that I don’t have to shave my legs (I know, I know, I don’t “have to” shave my legs in any season, okay? I know!), I love the snow, I love everything about winter except 2 things: Waking up in the morning, and the laundry.

20. What is your favourite thing to drink?

I love tea & water. I have a cup of tea every morning when I wake up, and about 2 litres of water daily (Stay hydrated!). I also love me some wine and gin – Balance. 😂

21. Where do you want to travel?

To quote a famous poet, “Wherever the wind blows moghel, go a iwa!”. I love to travel so I really want to go everywhere on the planet, but currently my boyfriend has been obsessed with Bora Bora and I started researching it: Absolutely breathtaking! Take me there. 🥰

22. Can you describe yourself in just 3 words?

Complex, Fun, Insightful.

23. What has been your biggest regret up to now?

Nothing. I don’t have regrets. I believe everything that happened in my life, the good and the bad, has contributed to the awesome person I am now.

24. What are your top pet peeves?

a. When people chew with their mouths open, ew!

b. The misspelling and mispronunciation of my name.

c. Blatant rudeness and disrespect.

d. Not using the indicator before turning. (seriously, we are not savages!)

25. If your life was a movie, what would be the title?

“I am winging this sh*t.” It’s funny because it’s true! Adulting is hard.

Alrighty! That’s it from me, I hope you had as much fun reading this as I had doing this Get To Know Me! Now it’s your turn. I’d love to hear from you. Please comment below with your name and one fun fact about you (or more!), I’d love to hear from you!

xoxo, Refiloe 💖
